Aarrow
Productions, Inc (API) is an independent television and documentary
production company located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The
Aboriginal-owned company was established in January 1999.
API produces The New Canoe,
a weekly Aboriginal arts and culture series that has been broadcast on
CTV Television's A Channels in BC and Ontario since 2002. Season VII
began airing on A Channels in June 2008, and Season VIII will be
launched in June 2009. APTN began airing The New Canoe Seasons III, IV and V in October 2006 and Season VI in 2008.
API
president Barbara Hager has been the host of the series since its first

In addition to The New Canoe, API produces documentaries and educational videos. In 2006 API released From Bella Coola to Berlin,
a one-hour HD documentary about nine Nuxalk First Nations men from
Bella Coola who were hired by Carl Hagenbeck to perform their songs and
dances in zoos and theatres in Germany in 1885-86. The documentary
premiered on Bravo! and A-Channels in Spring 2006, and on Discovery
Germany's Geschichte channel in 2007. The documentary is supported by
the Canadian Television Fund and Telefilm Canada through its Aboriginal
Languages Fund, License Fee Program and Equity Investment Program.
In 2007, API completed Sounds Like Motown,
a one hour documentary that follows the Vic High R&B Band during
their final two weeks of the school year in 2006, as they prepare to
back up Motown diva Martha Reeves on opening night of the Victoria
International Jazz Festival. The feature length version of the
documentary, Motown High, opened the Victoria Film Festival in 2008.
API
is dedicated to employing and contracting individuals of Aboriginal
ancestry in creative, technical and management positions. Many of API’s
interns and consultants are youth.
